We had a slow start to the day and enjoyed our breakfast and coffee before heading into Burgos to check on a couple of things we had not gotten to yesterday. The primary one was a visit to the Museum of Human Evolution which Ton said seemed interesting and was also free for seniors.
The area around Burgos has a very important archaeological site about predecessors to Homo Sapiens. The Museum of Human Evolution was opened in 2011 and is now the most visited museum in Castile. It does a great job of educating you on archaeology and the evolution of man. It was one of the most educational museums I have visited. There was one exhibit where they discussed the effort to translate the very technical scientific words used amongst archaeologists and evolutionary scientists to words that were easy for the average person, but accurately communicated the concepts presented. They did a great job on this in both Spanish (I presume) and English.
We really enjoyed the museum and emerged with a much greater understanding of the evolutionary development of man. The museum was much more interested in presenting knowledge than cool pictures so it is less photogenic than other museums. We really enjoyed it.
Ton had another Tapas restaurant she wanted to try so we headed down the beautiful promenade along the Alanzon River. There was a concert going on playing Spanish Pop hits that we stopped and enjoyed for about 15 minutes until it broke up at 2pm for siesta.
One of the famous foods from Burgos is a blood sausage mixed with rice. Neither of us are big fans of blood sausage, but the beauty of Tapas are that they are small dishes so we tried one. This was the best blood sausage I have had (but will not be ordering), and Ton liked it and might even order it again. The Vermouth was excellent. After the meal it was time to head back to the campground.
We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing near the van and chatting with our Welsh neighbors for a bit.
